Musician/Producer Roscoe Beck has had a long association with Leonard Cohen beginning with his work on the Recent Songs album in 1979 and continuing on the 1979/1980 tours. In 1986 Roscoe and Jennifer Warnes co-produced their highly acclaimed collection of Leonard Cohen songs: Famous Blue Raincoat. Soon came another collaboration with Leonard on the I’m Your Man CD, and a stint as musical director, assembling the band for Leonard’s 1988 I’m Your Man tour.
Roscoe has recorded, produced and toured with many others; artists as diverse as Eric Johnson, Robben Ford and the Dixie Chicks (onstage for the infamous 2003 tour that produced the film Shut Up and Sing.) Recently released, Walk On (AusTone Records) is Roscoe’s first recording as a solo artist. Fender Musical Instruments has honored Roscoe with the release of two Roscoe Beck signature basses.

. If It Be Your Will
If it be your will That I speak no more And my voice be still As it was before I will speak no more I shall abide until I am spoken for If it be your will
If it be your will That a voice be true From this broken hill I will sing to you From this broken hill All your praises they shall ring If it be your will To let me sing From this broken hill All your praises they shall ring If it be your will To let me sing
If it be your will If there is a choice Let the rivers fill Let the hills rejoice Let your mercy spill On all these burning hearts in hell If it be your will To make us well
And draw us near And bind us tight All your children here In their rags of light In our rags of light All dressed to kill And end this night If it be your will

Everybody Knows
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows that the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich That's how it goes Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking Everybody knows that the captain lied Everybody got this broken feeling Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets Everybody wants a box of chocolates And a long stem rose Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby Everybody knows that you really do Everybody knows that you've been faithful Ah give or take a night or two Everybody knows you've been discreet But there were so many people you just had to meet Without your clothes And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows
And everybody knows that it's now or never Everybody knows that it's me or you And everybody knows that you live forever Ah when you've done a line or two Everybody knows the deal is rotten Old Black Joe's still pickin' cotton For your ribbons and bows And everybody knows
And everybody knows that the Plague is coming Everybody knows that it's moving fast Everybody knows that the naked man and woman Are just a shining artifact of the past Everybody knows the scene is dead But there's gonna be a meter on your bed That will disclose What everybody knows
And everybody knows that you're in trouble Everybody knows what you've been through From the bloody cross on top of Calvary To the beach of Malibu Everybody knows it's coming apart Take one last look at this Sacred Heart Before it blows And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows
Oh everybody knows, everybody knows That's how it goes Everybody knows

Suzanne
Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river You can hear the boats go by You can spend the night beside her And you know that she's half crazy But that's why you want to be there And she feeds you tea and oranges That come all the way from China And just when you mean to tell her That you have no love to give her Then she gets you on her wavelength And she lets the river answer That you've always been her lover And you want to travel with her And you want to travel blind And you know that she will trust you For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
And Jesus was a sailor When he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching From his lonely wooden tower And when he knew for certain Only drowning men could see him He said "All men will be sailors then Until the sea shall free them" But he himself was broken Long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone And you want to travel with him And you want to travel blind And you think maybe you'll trust him For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.
Now Suzanne takes your hand And she leads you to the river She is wearing rags and feathers From Salvation Army counters And the sun pours down like honey On our lady of the harbour And she shows you where to look Among the garbage and the flowers There are heroes in the seaweed There are children in the morning They are leaning out for love And they will lean that way forever While Suzanne holds the mirror And you want to travel with her And you want to travel blind And you know that you can trust her For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.
Tower Of Song
Well my friends are gone and my hair is grey I ache in the places where I used to play And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on I'm just paying my rent every day Oh in the Tower of Song
I said to Hank Williams: how lonely does it get? Hank Williams hasn't answered yet But I hear him coughing all night long A hundred floors above me In the Tower of Song
I was born like this, I had no choice I was born with the gift of a golden voice And twenty-seven angels from the Great Beyond They tied me to this table right here In the Tower of Song
So you can stick your little pins in that voodoo doll I'm very sorry, baby, doesn't look like me at all I'm standing by the window where the light is strong Ah they don't let a woman kill you Not in the Tower of Song
Now you can say that I've grown bitter but of this you may be sure The rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor And there's a mighty judgement coming, but I may be wrong You see, you hear these funny voices In the Tower of Song
I see you standing on the other side I don't know how the river got so wide I loved you baby, way back when And all the bridges are burning that we might have crossed But I feel so close to everything that we lost We'll never have to lose it again
Now I bid you farewell, I don't know when I'll be back There moving us tomorrow to that tower down the track But you'll be hearing from me baby, long after I'm gone I'll be speaking to you sweetly From a window in the Tower of Song
Yeah my friends are gone and my hair is grey I ache in the places where I used to play And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on I'm just paying my rent every day Oh in the Tower of Song

Famous Blue Raincoat Songs Of Love And Hate (1971)
It's four in the morning, the end of december I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all thru the evening. I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert You're living for nothing now I hope you're keeping some kind of a record
Yes and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear?
The last time we saw you, you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder You'd been to the station to meet every train You came home alone without Lili Marlene. And you treated my woman to flake of your life And when she came back she was nobody's wife
Well, I see you there with a rose in your teeth One more thin gypsy thief Well, I see Jane's awake She sends her regards.
And what can I tell you my brother, my killer What can I possiby say I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you I'm glad you stood in my way. If you ever come by here for Jane or for me Well, your enemie is sleeping and your woman is free
Yes, and thanks for the trouble you took from her eyes I thought it was there for good so I never tried.
And Jane came by with a lock of you hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Sincerely, L. Cohen.

Jeudi 27 Novembre 2008 Leonard Cohen, chapeau bas
"Back to business", en somme.
Sans oublier Democracy is comin to the USA, trois semaines après l'élection de Barack Obama.

canadien Leonard Cohen : I'm Your Man

A Thousand Kisses Deep / Ten New Songs (Oct. 2001)
Texte d'origine : A thousand kisses deep
You came to me this morning And you handled me like meat. You´d have live alone to know How good that feels, how sweet. Anonymous, and hard, and fast - (I´d know you in my sleep) - Then born together, born at last A thousand kisses deep.
I loved you when you opened Like a lily to the heat. I´m just another snowman Standing in the rain and sleet, Who loved you with his frozen love His second-hand physique - With all he is, and all he was A thousand kisses deep.
All soaked in sex, and pressed against The limits of the sea: I saw there were no oceans left For scavengers like me. We made it to the forward deck I blessed our remnant fleet - And then consented to be wrecked A thousand kisses deep.
It´s true that you could lie to me It´s true you could to cheat The means no longer guarantee The virtue in deceit. That truth is bent, that beauty spent, That style is obsolete - O since the Holy Spirit went A thousand kisses deep.
(So what about this inner Light That´s boundless and unique? I´m slouching through another night A thousand kisses deep.)
I´m turning tricks; I´m getting fixed, I´m back on Boogie Street. I tried to quit the business - Hey, I´m lazy and I´m weak. But sometimes when the night is slow, The wretched and the meek, We gather up our hearts and go A thousand kisses deep.
(And fragrant is the thought of you, The file is now complete - Except what we forgot to do A thousand kisses deep.)
The ponies run, the girls are young, The odds are there to beat. You win a while, and then it´s done - Your little winning streak. And summoned now to deal With your invincible defeat, You live your life as if it´s real A thousand kisses deep.
(I jammed with Diz and Dante - I did not have their sweep - But once or twice, they let me play A thousand kisses deep.)
And I´m still working with the wine, Still dancing cheek to cheek. The band is playing "Auld Lang Syne" - The heart will not retreat. And maybe I had miles to drive, And promises to keep - Your ditch it all to stay alive A thousand kisses deep.
And now you are the Angel Death And now the Paraclete; Now you are the Quickening Breath And now the Belsen heap. No turning from the threat of love, No acrobatic leap - As witnessed here in time and blood A thousand kisses deep

Leonard Cohen, Live in London
